With a laser bar containing 6 lasers and a water-corrugated acrylic board, we were exploring the aesthetic of Interstellar through color, texture and composition of light.
We curated a color palette inspired by the hues of the galaxy, incorporating red as a symbol of warning and human error, reinforcing a sense of tension within the vastness of space. To introduce fluid, dynamic patterns, we placed a water-corrugated acrylic board in the laser’s path, allowing the light to ripple and distort organically. By programming the lasers’ positions from the walls to the ceiling, we created an immersive environment, while adjusting the distances between each beam to mimic the cosmic motion of expansion and convergence.
This exploration of color, composition, and material—rethinking the laser bar beyond its typical party setting—was an exciting and rewarding experiment.
The distance from the laser bar to the walls and how clean the walls are directly affect the outcome. We didn't choose a site for the presentation but put it in the classroom where the ceiling had many wires, etc. That could've been decided more wisely.
