Week 5

6 October (synchronous expert chat via Chat)

In lieu of today's class we will have a synchronous conversation with Professor Nora Barakat, but not during the regularly scheduled hours as previously announced. It will take place Wednesday afternoon (7 October), 4-6pm GST. Please plan on dropping by for about 20 minutes anytime during that period and say hi to Professor Barakat and engage with her about your interests in the interview I gave her. Remember that you can do this even from your mobile phone if you are not in front of the computer. The expert chat will take place in the room "DHS expert chat" to which you all have been added. This means that there will be no synchronous class via zoom on Tuesday.

Homework:

1 Work on your Assignment 1 and Blog 2.

2 Watch this short playlist on getting started in ArcGIS Online (about 20 mins in 8 parts). Also, follow this tutorial. Try your favorite dataset in ArcGIS, save it and share the link to the live, interactive map.

Thought question: from the ESRI playlist of video, what are your first impressions of the technological to which ArcGIS online aspires? If you'd like to share your thoughts, use the Discussions room (optional).

8 October (synchronous "drop in" consultation in Zoom)

In this class period at the regular time we will have a hands on session working with Overpass turbo and importing that information either into UMap and ArcGIS Online. This time is optional, but will address issues related to Assignment #1.
