In this course students will
(1) Compare and contrast analog and digital representations of geographic space;
(2) Learn basic ways to integrate digital maps into their own writing and research;
(3) Gain important data literacy skills, such as creating and manipulating spatial data; as well as learn to describe and publish them for reuse;
(4) Learn about community-based, open data initiatives and compare them to commercial ones;
(5) Participate collaboratively in project-based research about location;
(6) Practice effective communication skills in a written research blog, in synchronous communication channels in addition to recorded, web-based tutorial format;
(7) Explore the ways that location-based technologies are rapidly evolving around them.
