Current Student Experiences
"At the Office of Financial Aid, I work with students across all years, departments, and schools at NYU. I spend most days assisting students directly, as well as managing and updating student budgets to meet their individual needs. The HESA program has helped further my understanding of student needs, as well as how vitally financial aid and affordability play into that, pushing me to best assist students however I can."
Josie Landers | NYU Office of Financial Aid
"My GA job is in an administrative role to support all programs run by Global Leadership Hub in OGI. The daily work includes scheduling meetings, drafting emails, preparing documents, talking points for Senior Associate Vice-President for university-wide events and conferences. Many of the programs are relevant to HESA courses such as Leadership in Higher Ed and Diversity in Higher Ed. I was able to use the theories I learned from the classes to observe the work that OGI is doing."
Dressie Fan | Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity and Strategic Innovation
"The Wasserman Grad Team is the best team I ever worked with. I’m so lucky to get into my top choice, and I’ve gained so much in this experience. My responsibility includes providing individual career coaching appointments, delivering career workshops, facilitating career events, as well as advising student boards. This job allowed me to develop my skills in communicating with students directly, facilitating events and workshops, and my supervisor as well as all teammates supported me with help and trust throughout the whole time. "
Jennifer Du | Wasserman Center for Development Grad Team
"I work as a College Adviser at a local NYC public high school in The Bronx where I primarily work with high school seniors through the college application process. The knowledge I’ve gained regarding higher education and making some connections to the transitionary period of high school to college has helped me become a better adviser to my students. "
David Morales | NYU College Advising Corps
"My assistantship is at the NYU LGBTQ+ Center where my focus is around education and programming. I get to work closely with student leaders who, like myself, are deeply passionate about fostering a more inclusive community for LGBTQ+ people."
Ren Stone | NYU LGBTQ+ Center
"I picked my internship position because of the amount of work and interactions with students and ultimately the university is somewhere I would like to work at in the future. "
Maddie Tagaloa | Fordham University Lincoln Center
"My assistantship is with Columbia University’s Office of University Life. We’re the only office on campus that programs and interacts with students from all of Columbia’s Schools and Affiliates. In my role, I’ve helped plan and staff large-scale events and initiatives, including Columbia Welcome, the Sexual Respect and Community Citizenship Initiatives, Wellness Days, and Awakening our Democracy. I work closely with a large number of student leaders and the HESA program has helped me be more innovative when thinking about how to grow their leadership skills and provide opportunities for their professional and personal development. I love being able to bring activities we’ve done in different classes into my role, and understanding what my students are going through, not only from my own experiences as a student, but from a theoretical perspective because I feel like I have more tools to help support them throughout their time on campus."
Finley Peay | Graduate Assistant, Columbia University
