Dr. Rebecca Curinga

Rebecca Curinga is currently the TESOL and Bilingual Education Coordinator at the College of Staten Island, CUNY. She earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics with research focused on morphological awareness and reading in adolescent emergent bilinguals. She continues researching cross-linguistic skills for reading comprehension, specifically for adolescent newcomers. She has worked with the NYC Department of Education and New York State Education Department on assessments, curriculum, and policies for multilingual learners with developing literacy skills and in particular students who have had interrupted or inconsistent formal education. More recently her research has focused on creating and implementing equity-based lessons through technology for culturally and linguistically diverse learners in K-12 schools. This research is supported by the Computing Integrated Teacher Education (CITE) Initiative through CUNY.
