It has been an era of ‘dislocation’, a term drawn from the social science tradition ( i.e. social dislocation where there is the loss and detachment from home and culture, and essentially significant facets of identity; see Alexander, 2000). In an era marked by unprecedented dislocation and interconnected global dynamics, the significance of multilingualism emerges as a crucial element in fostering understanding and bridging cultural gaps amidst the complexities of our rapidly evolving world. ALWC 2024 aims to create rich opportunities to share research, insights, and teaching practices with specific focus on opportunities and challenges that have been brought about by unfolding contemporary events leading to significant dislocation of various groups and populations. We welcome topics include but not limited to:
Multilingualism and Multiculturalism
Language, Migration, and Education
Teaching and Trauma
Multilingualism and Technology
Multilingualism for Cultural Preservation
Language Policies and Rights in Dislocated Societies
Artificial intelligence and Language Acquisition
We invite proposals on original research or pedagogical practices. While ALWC 2024 gives priorities to the proposals within the conference theme, we also welcome and encourage broad participation and a wide range of topics in TESOL/AL. You can submit multiple proposals.
There are two types of proposals that we accept:
Individual Paper Presentations (Synchronous/concurrent sessions): 30-minute presentations (20-minute talk and 10-minute Q&A). This session is for presentation/demonstration on original research or pedagogical practices related to TESOL and applied linguistics. Please prepare the title (13 words max), abstract (50 words max), and summary (300 words max).
Workshops (Synchronous/concurrent sessions): 40-minute workshop. Workshop sessions provide participants with "hands on" experience in developing methods and materials, analyzing research data, or solving a specific research/teaching problem. Please prepare the title (13 words max), abstract (50 words max), and summary (300 words max). *Please note depending on the hosting zoom setting, presenters may not be able to use breakout room features. The planning team is working on the zoom options and will notify the presenters as soon as possible.
You need to prepare & submit:
Title (up to 13 words) - Please choose a title that will be clear to your audience.
Abstract (up to 50 words) - Abstract will be displayed in the conference program.
Summary (up to 300 words) - The summary is the basis for the Proposal Committee to select presentations for the conference. Please do not include any identifying information.
