Meet our ALWC2024 planning team, arranged in alphabetical order by their last names! 

Geovanna Jerez

My name is Geovanna Jerez, I am currently an ENL teacher/coordinator at an elementary school in Queens. I have a B.S in early childhood education and a  M.S. in TESOL. I've worked for the NYC Department Of Education for about 15 years as a teacher and paraprofessional. 

As a previous ELL student myself, my passion for working with immigrant families is deeply rooted. My goal is to provide teachers, students and their families the support and resources needed to succeed in the classroom. 

Nermeen Nasr

Nermeen Nasr is an ESP and ESL instructor with more than twelve years’ experience in the field of teaching. She is an M.A. in ESP candidate and a B.A. & Education holder. She has participated as a speaker in different conferences locally and globally, such as New York State TESOL’s 3rd Conference, TEFL Kuwait Hybrid Conference, ILACE 2022, ILACE 2023, and Nile TESOL's 27th Conference. She has also served as a proposal reviewer at different conferences, such as the 27th TESOL Arabia International Conference & Exhibition in Dubai and the New York State TESOL 23rd Conference. Nermeen works as an IB Examiner at the IBO Organisation in England. In addition, she is a former assessment specialist and lecturer at Pharos University in Alexandria. She is also a syllabus designer who is an expert in designing, developing, and modifying materials using a range of methods and platforms. Currently, she is working on a research paper that investigates the effect of the mode of test administration on test scores. 

Md Mamunur Rashid

Md Mamunur Rashid is a doctoral student in the Teaching and Curriculum program at the Warner School of Education, University of Rochester. He is also a trainee in the NSF Ph.D. Research Traineeship (NRT) program on AR/VR at the University of Rochester. Previously, Mamunur attended the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant program in 2017-18 at New York University, New York. His research interests include immersive learning with AR/VR, multimodal learning, language education, cinematic films as a pedagogical tool, and artificial intelligence in education. Mr. Rashid is also a photographer and a video editor. 

Haitham Safwat

Haitham is an EFL/ESP instructor with 20 years of experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages. He holds an Academic Master's in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and is a TEFL-TESOL-certified instructor and trainer. His research interests include TEFL, TESOL, and ESP.
