About SAP
Pennsylvania's Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Our Program:
The objectives of the Student Assistance Program are to identify, refer, and support students. Involvement of parents in all phases of the SAP program is essential. The parent’s role and responsibility in the decision process affecting their child’s education is key to successful resolution of problems. The Northwestern Lehigh HS Student Assistance Program is available to all students in grades 9-12. SAP members are trained to identify problems, determine whether or not the problem lies within the responsibility of the school, and make recommendations to assist students and parents.
The SAP Process
Referral
Any person may complete a SAP referral when they are concerned about a student's behavior.
Team Planning
The SAP Team collects objective information about the student from school personnel and the parent. After discussing the collected data with the parent and student, a plan is developed.
Intervention and Recommendations
The SAP Team will connect the parent and student with in-school and/or community-based services and activities. This may include a drug and alcohol or mental health assessment.
Support and Follow-Up
The SAP Team will continue to work with and support the student and their family.
The Student Assistance Program is meant to support and connect students and families with resources. They do not provide therapy or issue disciplinary consequences.
