Membership Requirements
Membership Requirements
Our chapter strives to give meaning to the Society's standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. The minimum requirements for consideration for admission are as follows:
Be a member of the 8th-grade class
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 at the conclusion of 7th grade
with no grade below a B in a CORE Content Class (Math, ELA, Social Studies, and Science)
Exhibit leadership and a desire for service
Be a positive role model and lead by example within the school and community
Participate in an extracurricular activity either in or out of school in grades 6, 7, and 8
Have no discipline referrals in grades 6, 7, or 8
Have no unexcused or unlawful absences in grades 6, 7, or 8
Once chosen for induction by the Faculty Committee, students will be expected to:
Maintain the required cumulative GPA and attendance requirements throughout the remainder of their middle school career
Maintain a positive disciplinary record and demonstrate the highest standards of character and citizenship in all aspects of school life
Complete a minimum of 10 community service hours during their 8th-grade year
Documented on an official form.
Verified by an adult supervisor (not a family member).
Actively participate in chapter meetings and group service projects.
Membership is a privilege, and students are expected to maintain the high standards that led to their selection. If students do not uphold these standards, dismissal from NJHS is possible.
A student who fails to meet the requirements (e.g., GPA drops, incomplete service hours, or a disciplinary issue) may be placed on probation. This is an opportunity to correct the issue and return to good standing.
If a student does not correct the issue during the probationary period, or if the infraction is severe, the faculty council may vote for dismissal.
A student who is dismissed from the NJHS is never again eligible for membership in the NJHS organization.
