For new employees or employees that need to re-certify, please do the following to complete the FERPA 101 Training:
Click the FERPA 101 training website (https://studentprivacy.ed.gov/training/ferpa-101-local-education-agencies)
Select “Click here to access this course” you will then be redirected to “https://usferpatraining-console.lrn.com/login”.
Click “New User” and complete your registration
Using your registered User ID and Password, log in to the training
Complete the “FERPA 101: Local Education Agencies” training
Upon completion, you will receive a certificate that may be uploaded to the OSYP electronic acknowledgement form AND submit a hard copy to your supervisor.
To obtain a copy of your certificate, on the “My Queue” home page, select “View Completion History” near the top right corner. Find the “FERPA 101: Local Education Agencies (Accessible)” training and under “Actions” click the print icon to print your certificate.

Pursuant to Hawaiʻi Revised Statute (HRS) §84-42, all employees of the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (Department) shall complete either a live or online ethics training course administered by the Hawaiʻi State Ethics Commission (Commission) at least once every four (4) years. New hires to the Department must complete training within 90 days of becoming an employee.
DOE employees have two options to complete the mandatory state ethics training: Training Resource Page
Option #1 - Individual Online Training - Self-guided video with a certificate of completion
Option #2 - Group Viewing Training - School/Office will lead the training and show video. Employees will not receive a certificate of completion, however, the school is responsible for tracking those in attendance at group viewing.
Training Certificate: Those who choose to do the Online Training will receive a certificate of completion. To receive the certificate, employees should enter the required information, including an 8-digit DOE Employee ID number and a certificate will be sent via email.
Upon receipt of your completion certificate, you may upload the document to the OSYP electronic acknowledgement form AND submit a hard copy to your supervisor.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education (Department) reminds all employees, including casual hires, contractors, volunteers, and substitute teachers of their responsibility as mandated reporters of child abuse. As such, these individuals are required to complete the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect annual training by viewing the newly released Mandated Reporter Online Training, developed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) in partnership with the Children’s Justice Center.
Mandated reporters must report any suspected child abuse or neglect, including sex trafficking and severe forms of trafficking in persons, as required by Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes §350-1 and Act 016 (2017). Child abuse or neglect is defined as any act or failure to act by someone related to, living with, or responsible for a child under 18 that causes or risks substantial harm to the child’s physical or mental health or welfare.
How to Complete the Mandated Reporter Online Training Follow the steps below to access and complete the training:
Click on www.mandatedreportertraining.com/hawaii
Click on “Take Training.”
Create a free account, then click “Join for Free.”
Click on “Add Your First Training.”
Select “General Training | HI” from the Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse menu, then click “Add Trainings.”
Click on “Child Abuse | HI General Training” to begin the training.
Click on “Start Course.”
On some slides, you must click the informational links to progress.
Upon completion of all the sections, you will be taken back to a dashboard where you will select “General Training Exam. Click on “Start Exam.”
The exam consists of 10 questions. A passing score is 80%. The exam may be retaken multiple times until a passing score is achieved.
After passing the exam, go to the Certificate section and click “Manage.”
On the next screen, click “Download” in the top-right corner to receive your certificate of completion.
Certificates of completion should be submitted to your supervisor or administrator.
Note: The training is self-paced, and staff may leave and return later using the same link. To resume training, on the home screen, click on “Log In” (MAC users), or click on the three lines at the top right corner, scroll down until you see “Log In” (PC users), enter your email and password, and choose “resume training” from your dashboard.
Upon receipt of your completion certificate, you may upload the document to the OSYP electronic acknowledgement form AND submit a hard copy to your supervisor.
