Practices
Typical schedule
Each team practices twice each week, with each practice lasting 90 minutes. Practices are scheduled between 6:15pm and 10:15pm Monday through Friday. Practice times are dependent on the number of teams at your middle school and your volunteer coach’s availability. About two weeks into the season, teams will begin to play against other LYV teams in games on Saturdays or Sundays. Weekend games can have a start time between 8am and 9:15 pm. For example, MS House team might have practices on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:45, and games on a Saturday at 9am and 10am. A high school team might practice Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:45 to 9:15 and have games on Saturday at 11am and 12pm.
Where will my LYV team practice?
Middle school LYV teams practice at their home middle school or an LYV designated elementary school close to your middle school. High School teams, middle school boys teams, and high school boys teams, and elementary teams will practice at a middle school in their geographical area as well. The Cascades teams will practice at the Virginia Volleyball Center in Sterling, VA.
Where does LYV get its coaches?
Most of our coaches are volunteers. The majority of LYV’s coaches are recruited from the pool of parents at each school. LYV offers coaching clinics at the beginning of the season for volunteers who want to coach but have no volleyball experience. If you're interested in coaching, use this link to let us know!
