Cell Phone Use in School
Guidelines:
Cell phones may only be used before school hours outside the school building.
During the school day, cell phones must be turned off and stored out of sight in student lockers.
After school hours, students are only to use their cell phones within the school to contact their parents.
Cell phones are permitted for student use during downtown lunch periods (Grades 7 & 8 ONLY).
At no time will the use of the camera or video function of cell phones be permitted in the school.
Failure to comply with these restrictions will result in the loss of the privilege
More Than Four Offenses: The student is banned from bringing internet-enabled devices onto school grounds, school buses, or to any school-sponsored activity for the remainder of the school year.
Laptop Use During Academic Periods
Guidelines:
Students are expected to use their school issued laptops for class related purposes only at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Any other use of the computer which distracts the student from classroom related is deemed unacceptable. Students who struggle to comply to teacher requests related to laptop use will be subject to a blocking plan which limits internet usage on an individual basis. Computer can be repossessed by the school if there is continued misuse.
AI Use in School
When utilizing AI platforms for school-related assignments, students must adhere strictly to the following core principles:
Protect Personal Privacy: Never enter Personally Identifiable Information (PII) into any AI tool. This includes your full name, birthdate, home address, email address, school name, phone number, passwords, or photos/videos of yourself or classmates.
Verify Information and Fact-Check: Generative AI tools frequently output inaccurate facts, incorrect dates, or fabricated sources (known as hallucinations). Students are responsible for verifying all facts using reliable library databases, textbooks, or primary sources.
Maintain Academic Originality: Using AI to write paragraphs, construct essays, solve math problems, or complete assignments for you and submitting them as your own work is considered academic dishonesty and plagiarism.
Keep Prompt Logs & Process Documentation: Save or screenshot your prompt history and conversation transcripts when using AI for schoolwork. Teachers may request to view your process documentation to assess your learning path.
The Four Steps for Every Assignment
ASK: Check if AI is allowed for this specific task.
USE: Use approved tools within permitted boundaries.
CHECK: Verify facts, fix inaccuracies, and check bias.
CITE: Document prompts & credit AI tools used.
Consequence Schedule
Failure to follow this policy or violating the Acceptable Use Policy will result in administrative action in accordance with the district Code of Student Conduct.
First Offense: Teacher-student conference, parent notification, and an opportunity to complete an alternate assignment independently for partial or full credit at teacher discretion.
Repeated Offenses: Administrative conference with parent/guardian, zero grade on the assignment, and potential temporary suspension of digital learning account privileges.
Bypassing Security Systems
Guidelines:
Using work-arounds to bypass our secure internet filter is a serious violation of school policy. Doing so does not just affect you—it puts our entire school network at risk. These actions can open the door for outside threats, including unauthorized access to gaming platforms and other unapproved websites.
By attempting to bypass security systems, you are compromising the safety of student and staff data.
Any student caught engaging in this behavior will face disciplinary consequences. Please use our technology responsibly and follow all digital safety rules.
