The staff at South Career and Technical Academy expects students to be present and ready to learn in class on time for every class. We know emergencies happen, but please understand that being consistently tardy to school or class is a violation of the magnet contract expectations, will have consequences, and may result in probation for the school year, and later removal from our school. Below you will find our school tardy policy for the 2025-2026 school year.
Periods 1 & 2 (first periods of the day)
South CTA students are expected to be present and ready to learn in class on time every day. Students who receive (5) or more tardies (late to class) in periods one and/or two will be contacted by the administration and assigned consequences.
The following consequences will be enforced during each conference:
Tardy 5 = Conference with the student, School Probation notice(1), Phone call home. Five (5) tardies in a single quarter will result in a loss of ALL student travel (field trips, sports, clubs, CTSO).
Tardy 7 = Student conference with administration.
Tardy 8 = Loss of privilege to attend activities (dances, after-school activities).
Tardy 10 = Probation notice(2), Parent/Student conference to discuss non-return status for the following year.
Periods 3 - 8
Students who are tardy for periods 3-8 will be placed on an in-school suspension for the remainder of the class period that they were tardy to. They will be released at the end of the period to attend their next class. Students who are tardy to two classes on the same day may be placed on RPC and cannot attend classes until the administration meets with the parents of the student. While serving in-school suspension, students will access classwork on a school-issued Chromebook via Canvas, or an alternative assignment will be required. While serving in in-school suspension, students will have no access to their phones at any time.
