Your child’s teacher will send home an Apple Core Bookmark as part of their homework.
Apple Core is an out-of-school reading program where students track their reading on Apple Core bookmarks. Bookmarks are tracked for school-level winners and submitted for student prizes. Each bookmark counts as 20 hours of out-of-school reading.
Smalley ES was the first-place winner for the average number of hours read for the Apple Core program in the city of Henderson for the 24-25 school year.
Students will be responsible for bringing their library books to and from the library on their assigned library day. Your child’s teacher sent out their class specialist schedule at the start of the school year.
Students can keep their books in their class or bring them home, but they must be returned to the library on their assigned day.
If a library book is damaged or lost, Mrs. Cotton (librarian) or Ms. Morgan (library aide) will contact you via Dojo for a replacement or fine payment.
If your student has an overdue, damaged, or lost book, they will not be able to check out more books until the book is returned, replaced, or the fine is paid.
Students in Grades 3-5 may check out 2 books.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Families/Students:
Your child will be given a bag to put their library book in. Please DO NOT throw this bag away, as they must have it in order to check out from the library. If the bag is damaged or lost, you can send in a bag as a replacement, and we will relabel it.
Students will be responsible for bringing their library books AND bags to and from the library on their assigned library day.
Please help keep our collection in pristine condition.
Wash your hands before reading books.
Use bookmarks, don’t fold pages.
Keep books away from water, food, younger siblings, and pets.
Our school book vending machine was donated by, and is supplied with books from, our very own Smalley PTO.
The books in the machine are used for student awards and incentives. They are not part of our library catalog. Any books students receive from the machine are theirs to read, keep, and enjoy!
