Animated Story Telling Family Connection Activities:
Rosie's Runtime is an unplugged computer science activity where children program a robotic dog to get from the starting point to home. Review Rosie's Runtime (opens in a new tab)for directions and game cards to play Rosie's Runtime with your child. Create a story together. One person starts the story and says a sentence. Then the other person has to add to the story. Take turns adding to the story until you agree on an ending.

Animal Adaptations Family Connection Activities:
Go for a walk and observe the plants and animals that live in your area. What adaptations do these plants and animals have that enable them to survive in their environment? What category of adaptation do they fall under—camouflage, protection, food, or locomotion?
Spend some time bird-watching outside. As you watch each bird, observe the following: What do you notice about the bird's beak, wings, and claws? Does the bird have colorful markings or feathers? What sounds does the bird make? If you want to know more about the birds you observe, borrow a bird-watching guide from your local library, or download a bird-watching app like Merlin or Audubon Birds.
With your family, read a story or watch a short video about a natural environment and animals that are different from those where you live. Talk about the plants and animals you learned about. How do you think they have adapted to their environment? How are they different from the plants and animals in your area? How are they similar to the plants and animals in your area?
Students will learn how to grow in a garden and use a hydroponic grow system.
