Lummis Elementary School has experienced much success with Battle of the Books over the years. We first joined a smaller version in 2010 and won three years in a row. In 2013 we joined the larger Battle of the Books group, which is open to all elementary schools in CCSD and beyond. We won the entire district championship in both 2014 and 2017! The photo above is from 2022. We won our Regionals tournament that year but did not clench the title of District champs. So close!
Battle of the Books is open to Lummis students in grades 4 and 5 at the beginning of the school year. Students form teams of four students. They then read and study all eight books selected for Battle of the Books. Battle of the Books at Lummis is expected to begin in October.
In March teams will come after school one day to compete in the Preliminary Battles. Teams will be randomly matched up to compete in Jeopardy style battles. All teams are guaranteed two battles. The top four teams with the most points will move on to Semifinals. Then the top two teams move on to Finals, which will be an assembly for grades 3-5. Our top team later competes in Regionals and possibly even District Finals!
