Nevada Thespians

This is where you will find information for upcoming Nevada Thespians Events.

Students may participate in up to 2 events at Regionals. Students must earn a superior or excellent to compete at State.

Students must turn in their Consent and Health Form and Registration fee together in order to register.

Students must know the name of the play they are performing from and the author. PLEASE consult the guideline located on the Thespian website. www.nvthespians.org

EVENTS: Contrasting Monologues, Scenes, Musical Theatre, Tech and Short Film. More detailed descriptions of each individual event, time limits, rubrics, and copyright restrictions can be found on the Nevada Thespians website.

A FEW GUIDELINES...

PERFORMANCE PIECES: Students MUST perform from published plays and musicals. Students will be disqualified for performing unpublished works, original works, and non theatrical pieces (no movies or radio songs). Materials

DRESS CODE: Students MUST adhere to the Individual Events dress code. Students must wear all black in event rounds. No accents colors are allowed. They will be disqualified. (They are very strict on this rule. A student received a superior rating and was disqualified for a subtle, purple stripe on her pants.)

REGISTRATION DEADLINES: Deadlines have been set by Nevada Thespians. Students who do not register on time or need to make a change after the deadline has passed must pay a $50 fee to Nevada Thespians. This is not a school policy - it is a NEVADA THESPIANS policy. Please make sure to have all paperwork, fees and information in ontime.

JUNIOR THESPIANS

Junior Thespian point system summary.

• One point represents approximately five hours of excellent work. Use this formula in awarding points for items not specifically listed in the point system.
• To become a Junior Thespian, a student must earn 10 points, the equivalent of 50 hours of work. Five of those points should be acquired at the school where he or she is to be inducted.
• Induction points should be earned through participation in at least two full-length productions, or one full-length and two one-acts, or four one-acts.
• Induction points should be earned in at least two of the listed categories, for example, acting and production.

At the troupe director’s discretion, students may earn up to five points toward induction through participation in community, children’s, elementary school, or professional theatre.

• Junior Thespian membership is offered to all students who qualify. No student can be elected into the troupe, and no student can be denied membership if he or she has fulfilled all membership requirements.
• One inducted, students may transfer 5 points towards their High School Thespian troupe inducions.
• Additional criteria. The school or troupe director may adopt additional requirements for induction into ITS. Attendance, academic performance, behavioral expectations, and community service projects are examples of criteria that may be considered when determining induction eligibility. Any changes must be documented in the troupe constitution. Criteria may not include recommendation or approval by other students.
