1st, 2nd, and 3rd period
Introduction to Musical Theatre is a prerequisite course for the Advanced Theatre Play Production class. Students wishing to audition for this class must complete musical theatre prior to auditioning.
Intro to Musical Theatre looks to explore the many facets and skills that go into producing and preparing for a musical. Students will explore skills in singing and dancing and apply that to their acting skills. Students will learn a significant amount of musical theatre history in regards to composers, choreographers, genres, styles and actors. Emphasis will be placed on the acting and presentation of a song/dance. Students will strengthen their stage presence and "triple threat" skills. This class will encourage self discipline and self driven rehearsal outside of the school day.
Please respect the brand new dance floors by not bring food or beverages other than water into the room and removing shoes.
Musical Theatre is a physically active class. Students should try to dress in clothing appropriate for stretching and dancing in class. We will be working on strengthening endurance in preparation for singing and dancing simultaneously. Students will perform exercises in order to strengthen their core, build flexibility, and improve their leg strength and mobility . Students will also be working on vocal techniques and should stay hydrated. Water bottles should be within in reach during class and when rehearsing on their own.
*Students will be watching clips from original Broadway productions throughout the year and recording performances of themselves for assessment.
