External Credit Opportunities

• Community Service Credit

  • 0.5 elective credit will be granted for volunteering 60 hours (1.0 credit for 120 hours) at a school approved

community agency (1 credit max).The hours may not count if they are court mandated. Students are required to submit a time sheet and summary of their experiences. See counselor for application, must be pre-approved.

• Credit By Exam

  • Nevada Learning Academy at CCSD (NVLA) offers students a variety of options for Credit by Exam. Credit by Exam is only available for courses in which the student is not currently enrolled and has not previously taken. All Credit by Exam is subject to enrollment fees. Most popular class is Spanish.  See counselor for application, must be pre-approved.

• Educational Travel

  • 0.5 elective credit will be granted for a 21-day educational trip/tour (1.0 credit for 42 days). Students are required to submit a log with general descriptions of sites visited detailing items of interest, the student’s reactions, and photographs of the student at the sites. A parent or guardian may sign logs for educational travel credit supporting documentation. See counselor for application, must be pre-approved.

• PE II Waiver 

  • Play a sport at DHS (1 credit max).

  • Requires 120 hours of external course work completed under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor or coach who is a credentialed and/or licensed professional outside the school district. The activity must be geared toward competition or performance-based, and it is expected that the student will compete/perform in the activity. Membership in a gym does not meet this criterion. • Work Experience Credit

  • For students earning a wage or salary and working a minimum of 15 hours a week or 270 hours per semester. Hours will be verified by submitting paycheck stubs. A maximum of one credit may be earned in Exploratory Work Experience. See counselor for application, must be pre-approved.
