KIMBERLY SNAVELY, Kimberly Snavely is a music educator whose roots run deep in the pacific NW. She found her love for choral music throughout her public-school experience. She developed her early music studies at Shoreline College in Seattle, WA studying with accomplished choral educators. Her broad skillset found her performing in traditional choral ensembles, jazz choirs, opera scenes, and chamber ensembles all the while embracing the opportunities to develop her own growth as a singer. Kim took every opportunity to embrace the broad swath of musical opportunities available to her in the Seattle area, singing not only in traditional “educational” ensembles, but also singing in local rock bands and community ensembles. All of these early experiences in musical production and performances instilled in Kim a passion to teach others to experience their own paths in music. She attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, completing her undergraduate and master’s degrees in education and choral conducting. Following a very successful tenure at Mt. Sr. High School, she assumed the director of choral activities position at Foothill High School in Henderson NV. Her choirs both in Washington and Nevada traveled nationally and internationally. They were featured ensembles at state conferences and have graced stages across the globe from Paris to Carnegie Hall. Before returning to Washington state to be near family, her Jazz Choir at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas was awarded a prestigious Downbeat Magazine award. Kim continues to broaden her educational experiences in the Pacific NW and has recently focused her skills and passion on younger musicians, primarily working with elementary and middle school students. Her “big picture” approach to music making has been focused on developing engaging choir camps that have drawn hundreds of young singers together to make music and find joy in joining together to sing and celebrate making music. Kim remains an active clinician and adjudicator and continues to explore new and innovative ways to bring the love and passion for singing to all that are in her orbit.
