Isochrysis galbana
Brown algae, or more formally known as Isochrysis galbana, is a sub-species of Haptophyta. This classification, otherwise known as Prymnesiophyta, refers to a clade of algae. This type of algae is very popular amongst aquaculture facilities and stock enhancement.
Since brown algae is part of the class Phaeophyceae, we decided to talk about the species found in this classification. You can think of the species listed below as brown algae's close relatives.
As mentioned earlier on the Red Algae page, brown algae contains significant amounts of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll c, and fucoxanthin; all of which contribute to its earthy colour.
