Welcome to Lincoln-Douglas! LD is a one-on-one debate event, but you might be wondering what you’re really going to be doing.
LD debaters get a new resolution about every two months, which means you’ll probably be doing 2-3 tournaments with any one resolution. You can check out the current topics, for LD and other events, on the National Speech & Debate Association Website.
Public Forum, or PF, is a partner debate, two teams of two, debating on a monthly resolution based in current events. One team takes on pro, and agrees with the resolution. The other team is labelled con, and disagrees with the resolution.
In congressional debate, students role-play as members of the United States congress and debate bills and resolutions that are pertinent to current affairs and issues.
Policy debate is a two-on-two debate about questions of foreign policy. Policy is a research and evidence intensive debate, and as a result, the resolution does not change throughout the year.
