This one-year course provides an introduction to the essential elements of game design and development. Areas of emphasis include a history of digital games, game genres, principles of design and animation, and a comprehensive survey of the digital game industry, including career paths and the interdependence of roles in game development. A study of non-digital games is included to explore the relationship between game mechanics, dynamics, and player experience. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills one of the Arts/Humanities/CTE credits required for high school graduation.

Digital Game Development I
This one-year completer course is designed for students who have successfully completed Digital Game Development I. Areas of emphasis include game structure, level design, programming principles, and custom game mechanics. Students practice game design and development while gaining hands-on experience with industry game engines. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills one of the Arts/Humanities/CTE credits required for high school graduation and may count towards the College and Career Ready Flex Credit requirements for the Standard Diploma.

This one-year complementary course is designed for students who have successfully completed a Digital Game Development pathway and have the desire to pursue advanced study through investigation and in-depth research. Students are expected to work independently or in a team and consult with their supervising teacher for guidance. The supervising teacher will give directions, monitor, and evaluate the students’ topic of study. Experiences may include job shadowing, completion of capstone or project-based learning projects, and/or portfolio development. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills one of the elective credits required for high school graduation and may be repeated.

This one-year complementary course is designed for students who have successfully completed a Digital Game Development pathway. This course is designed to expand on the students’ knowledge of algorithms and their desire to pursue advanced study through investigation and in-depth research. It explores Development Network (DevNet) and Application Programming Interface (API) frameworks that are integral to application and software development. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills one of the elective credits required for high school graduation.
