Course Selection Process
Courses that you select this spring (later approved by your counselor) are the courses you will be required to attend during the 2026-2027 school year. Choose your classes carefully. No schedule change requests will be approved other than those governed by the following Schedule Change Policy statement. Your schedule will be automatically generated using Infinite Campus and will be based upon your current transcript, assessment scores, typical course sequencing, teachers’ recommendations, the courses that you choose, and the classes offered by A-TECH. Generally, the courses listed in this registration guide will only be offered in the curriculum for the next school year if a minimum number students pre-register for a course. If too few students request the course, the course may be canceled and those students will be rescheduled into their alternative elective(s).

Use your four year academic plan created with your counselor as a guide for selecting classes. You will not be allowed to take classes below your achievement level in required areas (Math, English, etc.). All students are encouraged to take Honors and Advanced Placement courses.
DISCUSS your course selection with your parents/guardians, teachers, and your counselor before registration. Although course placement is made primarily based on a student's transcript and typical course sequencing, teachers may make additional recommendations based on student performance and potential.
CHOOSE courses that will challenge you and give you the best possible preparation for your future in terms of employment and further education. It is important to select courses that are appropriately challenging and will prepare you for college success.
COMPLETE your pre-registration form with your parent prior to meeting with your Counselor to choose your electives, making alternate choices. In the event elective choices are filled and/or cancelled, you will be assigned your alternate choice(s). If no choices are listed, you will be placed in an available elective with open seats.
UNDERSTAND you will be expected to remain in year-long classes for the entire year. Exceptions (graduation requirements, misplacement) will be handled through the regular schedule change procedure with your counselor within the first two weeks of school. Seniors who qualify for a reduced class load (shortened day) must apply during pre-registration with their counselor.

A-TECH has partnered with UNLV and CSN to offer a variety of Dual Enrollment courses for students. Dual Enrollment courses allow students to earn college credit, as well as high school credit, for the enrolled course. Dual Enrollment courses must follow the course guidelines, add/drop/withdraw dates and grading policies of the partnering college or university. Students are required to pay dual enrollment course fee to cover the reduced tuition cost for the college/university. Tuition assistance is available for students with financial hardships.

**All Dual Enrollment courses are subject to instructor approval and minimum enrollment numbers as outlined by the partnering NSHE institution. If a dual enrollment course becomes unavailable, students will be placed in the closest corresponding class.

The CCSD AP and Honors course offerings are designed to challenge students to enroll in more demanding and rigorous coursework and to improve advanced academic achievement of students demonstrating accelerated educational potential.
Honors Courses
Honors Courses
Students participating in the Honors program should be mature and highly motivated. Honors classes are classified as accelerated, rigorous courses designed for students who plan to apply to colleges or universities with admission requirements that are competitive. The level and amount of required work is greater than regular level classes. With an eight period day, parent and student should consider the student’s total workload before selecting classes that have more homework. First-year foreign language classes, fifth-year classes, and external credit options will not receive Honors credit. The weighted grade point factor for successful completion of an Honors course is .025.
Advantages of the Honors Course Offerings
Most competitive colleges and universities consider not only students’ grades, but also their academic background evidenced by courses listed on the transcript, letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors, and SAT or ACT scores.
Enrollment in the College and Career Ready Diploma course work will assist students in their preparation for college entrance exams.
The GPA weighted with Bonus Points is used when determining class rank.
Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement tests are developed by the National Educational Testing Service. AP courses on a student’s transcript are evaluated by universities as the most significant entry that can appear on a transcript. AP students may be required to attend at least one weekend study session and utilize outside study exam preparation materials in addition to classroom preparation. The level and amount of required work is much greater than regular and honors level classes. With an eight period day, parents and students should consider the student’s total workload before selecting classes that have more homework. An AP Workload Guide is on the following page and should be utilized when selecting classes.
Students that elect to take more than 4 AP classes during one school year will be required to have a parent teacher conference with the school counselor prior to the start of the school year to ensure that support systems are in place for the student to be successful.
In May, a required cumulative exam is administered for each AP course. AP exams are graded on a scale of one (minimum) to five (maximum). The cost for each exam is paid for by the student. Students may take an AP Exam without having taken the AP class. Waivers and reduced fees are available to students who demonstrate financial hardship. See your counselor for further information. College credit for AP exams is determined individually by each college/university. This represents significant financial savings to the student and parent. Students are responsible for checking the AP policy for colleges they are considering attending. The weighted grade point factor for successful completion of an AP course is .050. Mastery of AP course content shall be determined by participation in the AP examinations sponsored by the College Board. Students are required to take the AP examinations for each course they are enrolled in. Students that withdraw from the course after exams have been ordered in the fall will be subject to an exam cancellation fee.
