Mentoring can be defined as "...a voluntary, mutually beneficial, and long-term relationship where an experienced and knowledgeable leader (mentor) supports the maturation of a less experienced nurse (mentee)." Formal mentoring in nursing can be described as "...having a clear rationale, reflective of organizational goals and objectives; measurable goals and outcomes; and mechanisms for assessment and selection of mentors and mentees." (ANDSOOHA/PHRED Nursing Mentorship Resource Guide, n.d).

Siobhan Bell holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice, a Masters in Nursing and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
