Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Nurse Examiner - Forensic Nurse Examiner

Nurse Psychotherapist

As a registered nurse since 2006, I have experienced the reality that mental health is important to every context of life. As a sexual assault/domestic violence forensic nurse examiner, I have provided crisis counselling, trauma-informed care and therapy for a number of needs. As a nurse, I have provided counselling and therapy services for my entire career.

As a survivor of postpartum trauma, PTSD and moral injury from a healthcare system that isn’t meeting the most basic empathetic needs of their patients, I have a unique view and ability to assist my clients in their therapy journey. I am also a post-op bariatric client who sees the “you” in you!

As a mom of 2 on earth and 1 not - I understand the traumas of birth, loss and the ups and downs of parenting. As a partner of 21 years to someone working in emergency services - I have a unique understanding of parenting that is shared by those with similar schedules and vicarious trauma-facing professions. With this experience - I have an enormous amount of empathy and respect for those who choose to or are forced to face parenting as a single parent. I also see the hard balance of wanting and needing a community and the challenges of establishing and maintaining that community in today's world.

Using a number of techniques (CBT, DBT, IBT, Trauma-Informed Therapy, brainspotting) I can provide a therapeutic experience that is client-driven, wellness-focused and informed by a holistic view of person, family and community.

My doctorate in nursing practice and master's degree in nursing, further show the importance of mental wellness in overall physical health as well as the importance of a mentally well community based on social needs and supports. I hope to continue to use my skills to practice and reach even more people in need through my private therapy practice.
