The trumpet is a brass instrument commonly used in classical and jazz ensembles. Sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips (embouchure) cause the air inside the instrument to vibrate. Different notes are formed by changing the length of the tubing, by putting down different combinations of the three valves. Each valve, when engaged, increases the length of tubing, lowering the pitch of the instrument. The trumpets tone is metallic, bright, powerful and stately.
