Resolved Issues

Teacher Access to Parent Contact Information (RESOLVED)

ISSUE: It is very difficult for teachers to access contact information.

  • DESCRIPTION: The information for student contact phone numbers and addresses is incorrect and difficult to access. The data also appears to be incomplete.
  • STATUS - RESOLVED: PowerSchool’s parent/guardian contact module was newly released, updated in late summer, and unfortunately, provided access to the new "Contacts" module ONLY in the Administrator portal. Please note that the "Demographics" page does not show the necessary information.

New Trier's Enterprise Applications Team (EA) has installed an update that will allow for teacher direct access to an individual student's guardian contact information.

You may also continue to access and print a report to display guardian contact information: click here for instructions on how to run the report.

M1 and S1 grades are not matching in PTP Gradebook (RESOLVED)

ISSUE: Some Teachers using PTP Gradebook see a discrepancy in students' M1 and S1 grade.

  • DESCRIPTION: Certain teachers have reported that their M1 grade does not match their S1 grade.
  • STATUS - RESOLVED: Teachers need to make sure that M1 & S1 setups and options are identical. Since final grades need to be entered for M1 during October 23-29, teachers need to verify that their M1 and S1 grades match. The Instructional Technology team will be holding drop-in sessions all day to assist teachers with this issue on Friday, October 19th at the Northfield campus in room A301C, and Monday, October 22nd at the Winnekta campus in room W401.

Grade Visibility (RESOLVED)

ISSUE: Students cannot see their grade and I cannot change my grade visibility settings.

  • DESCRIPTION: In Grade Visibility Settings, teachers cannot set a "yes" or "no" option in "Show Final Grade," "Show Cumulative Grade," nor "Show Assignment Detail" for C1 and C2 - the drop-down arrow is non-functioning. When you try to save a change to these settings you receive a Page 500 error. Also, multiple teachers have reported that their students cannot see their in-progress cumulative grade even though the teacher has set the PowerTeacher Pro Grade Visibility setting to "Yes"
  • STATUS - RESOLVED: In response to teacher feedback, we created a new "C1" and "C2" grading term for use in the PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook. These terms were created after the original install of the custom for Grade Visibility. PowerSchool programmers have adjusted their programming to account for the C1 & C2 grading terms and you can now make full changes and save your edits to the Grade Visibility settings.

Adviser Portal & Attendance (RESOLVED)

ISSUE: Classroom teachers are overwriting my "PX" or "VX" attendance entries that I set through the Adviser Portal.

  • DESCRIPTION: Teachers can overwrite PX/VX entries created by Advisers. For example, if you enter a PX, a teacher can enter a student as absent in their class and that overwrites your PX entry with a UN.
  • STATUS - RESOLVED: The Adviser Portal is one of our most complicated areas and the need to support over 160 bottom line attendance offices requires complex programming. PowerSchool programmers have made changes to the database that will prevent classroom teachers from overwriting an Adviser's PX or VX. In the classroom teacher's attendance entry screen, an adviser PX or VX will appear as a "read-only" field that cannot be edited.

Eligibility (PENDING)

ISSUE: Teachers have to enter eligibility status for every student versus entering status for only students involved in activities.

  • DESCRIPTION: Teachers have to enter eligibility for all students and do not have any information on what athletics, performing arts, or activities the student participates in
  • STATUS: Technology is currently working to integrate information from the newly Athletics management software, rSchool, with PowerSchool. This will allow for the creation of a 10th period class for athletics and eventually Performing Arts. Once those classes are set we will filter out students who have a 10th-period class and ONLY those students will require an eligibility entry going forward. Another change that we are researching is changing the display order to be based on student name versus ID number.

PowerSchool Apps (RESOLVED)

ISSUE: Students, Guardians, & Teachers cannot access the PowerSchool App

  • DESCRIPTION: There are two PowerSchool Apps - PowerSchool and PowerSchool Learning. The main PowerSchool app for grades, attendance, course selection etc, is currently unavailable and all login attempts fail.
  • STATUS: New Trier’s customs to allow teachers to restrict grade visibility are only applicable to our specific PowerSchool web page portals. Since the app is used by all PowerSchool customers and is distributed in the Apple and Google stores, our customizations will not work in the mobile App. We have asked PowerSchool to not allow logins to the mobile app.
