The STEM Implementation Plan supports educators in documenting how they adapt and implement a high-quality STEM resource (lesson or assessment) from a vetted instructional unit. The purpose of this tool is to support thoughtful planning, ensure alignment with best practices in STEM instruction, and guide educators in demonstrating their ability to implement and reflect on their impact. It helps connect NGSS aligned instruction with local relevance, equity, and real-world career pathways.
The primary goal of this plan is to support meaningful, integrated STEM instruction that:
Engages students in authentic, three-dimensional learning
Is inclusive and responsive to your classroom and community
Builds connections to careers and real-world applications
Strengthens students’ ability to make sense of real-world phenomena problems through collaborative, inquiry-based learning
This plan serves as the implementation documentation for your cohort. It is not the same as your capstone, which may take other forms aligned to your leadership goals.
Fellows will complete this plan in three distinct stages, with each stage supporting the integration of STEM disciplines, student sensemaking and career awareness:
Stage 1: Analyze - Explore vetted instructional materials, evaluate a potential resource, and begin identifying how it aligns with your students’ needs, context, and relevant STEM careers.
Stage 2: Design and Adapt - Customize your selected resource to reflect your local community and context, integrate relevant STEM fields and careers, and prepare inclusive learning experiences that promote collaboration and sensemaking.
Stage 3: Implement and Reflect- Implement your adapted resource, collect evidence of student engagement and learning, and reflect on how the experience supported student understanding, identity, and awareness of STEM careers.
