High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) are vetted resources aligned to the NGSS. For your STEM Implementation Plan, you will choose a lesson, set of lessons, or an assessment task. These resources serve as the foundation for your implementation.
These materials were developed and curated with support from Midwest Dairy to help connect science learning to real word contexts in food science and agriculture. Its up to you to explore and find the resource that fits best with your students, goals, and classroom context.
The Fields of STEM HQIM Dashboard is your launch point for selecting a lesson, set of lessons, or assessment task for your STEM Implementation Plan.
Each entry in the dashboard includes:
Direct links to the instructional resource
A brief overview of the content
Notes on how it connects to key STEM disciplines
While many of the resource were designed for high school, some middle school tasks are also included and may be adapted to fit a different grade band as needed. Use the dashboard to find a resource that fits your students' needs, your instructional goals, and your classroom context.
With so many strong options available, you will need to begin narrowing your search. Start by identifying a few considerations based on your specific teaching context:
Grade band: Are you teaching middle or high school?
Science Discipline: Are you focusing on life science, physical science or Earth and Space Science?
STEM Focus: Are you interested in lessons that emphasize engineering, modeling, data analysis or technology tools?
You don't need to dive deep just yet, this step is about screening for general alignment. Use the information in the dashboard to flag a few resources that seem promising. Once you've narrowed down you'll use the STEM Lesson Evaluation Tool to take a deeper look at the quality of STEM integration and the potential fit for your classroom.
You're now ready to begin exploring! Use the button below to access the dashboard and start browsing lessons, units, and assessment tasks that might be a strong fit for your classroom. The dashboard is your guide. Take your time exploring, you can always return to this page later as you are moving through your planning.
Once you've identified a few promising resource that you are interested in, use the STEM Lesson Evaluation Tool to dig deeper. This tool helps you:
Reflect on the lesson's anchoring phenomenon, relevance, and clarity
Identify whether students will engage in authentic STEM practices
Consider accessibility of the lesson for your students
Spot opportunities for adaptations to meet the needs of your specific learners
Completing this evaluation is a required part of Stage 1 of your STEM Implementation Plan and will guide your next steps in customizing the resource for implementation.
