I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I am new to Indian Trail having relocated from North Carolina last fall with my husband. We are both from Illinois and after living away for 22 years, it has been wonderful to come back home. My husband and I have two daughters who attend college in North Carolina. I earned my Master's in Teaching from Rollins College and my undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University. I taught first grade for 5 years in North Carolina. Prior to that I taught in Florida. I am excited for the opportunity to expand your child’s learning in second grade. Truly the staff at Indian Trail have been so welcoming and helpful to me. I look forward to getting to know the families of Indian Trail as well.
My name is Joan Layton and I am a certified teacher and Learning Behavior Specialist. This will be my seventh year working in District 112. I have already had the privilege of working in the SAIL program, the STEP program, and as a resource teacher for both primary and intermediate students. I am very excited to be co-teaching with Mrs. Asbury this year and being able to focus my time supporting second grade.
Education is my second career and is also my passion and my true calling and I received my MA in Elementary Education and LBSI certification from North Park University. I love to cook, stay active doing yoga and swimming, and I love to read, especially history, philosophy, and psychology.
I look forward to supporting you as parents on your journey and to a year of fun and growth ahead.
I earned my bachelor's in communications from North Park University in 2004 and my master's in education from DePaul University in 2008.
I spent ten years teaching in middle schools and loved it. I honestly thought that's where I belonged. In 2016, I was presented an opportunity to follow an amazing principal to elementary, and I decided to try it. I spent one year teaching second grade and learned that I truly love children of all ages.
I joined NSSD112 last year, teaching fifth grade at Sherwood. I'm excited to be joining the Indian Trail team and to be back in second grade. I'm passionate about fostering a love of reading and writing, and I look forward to seeing how much students grow this year!
I am excited to be teaching second grade! This is my twenty fifth year in the district and I still love teaching as much as when I began. I have taught six years of fourth grade, fifteen years of fifth grade and I was a teaching assistant in both first and second grade. I earned my bachelor's in human development and family studies at Colorado State University and my master's in education from National Louis University.
My husband and I have two children in high school. I enjoy reading, yoga, and spending time with my family and friends. I am looking forward to working with you and being a part of the Indian Trail staff.
