Plaque Ball - 3-4 students wear yellow jerseys to signify “plaque”. There are yellow dodgeballs spread out around the gym to signify balls of plaque. All of the other students in the game are the pearly white teeth. When teacher says go, students with jerseys are only allowed to take 3 steps while holding a dodgeball and they need to throw at the pearly white teeth. Getting hit with a ball of plaque at any point will cause them to have to go to the tooth brushing station (mats, on the side of the gym) to perform a certain amount of an exercise in order to “brush their teeth” before re-entering the game
Brushing Teeth Bowling Activity - Bowling pins = teeth, bowling balls = sugar, brushing teeth is considered resetting pins
“Don't wake daddy” game - Students pretend sleeping at end of gym turned around. Students walk to other side of gym towards seeping student. When sleeping student turns around “wakes up” the rest of the students must freeze. If they are caught they would be out and have to restart after doing exercises.
Food Pyramid Activity - Hula Hoops in pyramids, print out food groups put them into hula hoops. Print out different foods or get plastic play food. Have students take turns running back and forth picking up different foods, running to pyramid, placing food in appropriate food group, then running back to tag their partner
Hungry Hippos - Different colored yarn balls (Different colors, represent healthy/unhealthy foods), scooters, buckets, hula hoop, jump ropes. Students take turns being the hippos on scooters. Scooters are attached by a jump rope. The hippos grab a bucket, not able to use their hands and try to trap as many healthy yarn balls under bucket and bring back as they can. Once hippos give the signal to their partners, the partners pull them back using the jump rope. The students rotate taking turns who pulls the jump rope and who is the hippo.
“Make Your Plate” - Set up Hula Hoops on one side of the gym to signify that teams plate. Students are split up into teams, however many you want depending on number of students. Food flashcards are spread out around the other side of the gym face down. The students take turns running, grabbing a flashcard, then bringing it back to their team. The goal is to get at least 1 serving of each food group for the first round. Future rounds: the students goal are to get all of the servings of each food group to meet their daily value, as discussed in the intro. The slide will be projected on the wall as a reminder.
Food Group Roundup - Students need to need to run to one side of the gym and pick up a face down flashcard from the ground. Each team will have a certain color hula hoops signifying a different food group. Students must grab a random flashcard, run back to their team, put the card in its designated hula hoop depending on what food it is (red=fruit, green= vegetable, purple=protein, yellow=grain, blue=dairy). If the students grab a “sometimes” food they must do 10 of whatever exercise the student who grabbed the card picked (must be different every time).
“Ships and Planes”- Object of the game is for the teacher (caller) to use commands to get students out. Students start on the baseline at one side of the gym called “ships”. Baseline on opposite side of the gym would be called “planes”. If a student moves for the wrong command they sit off the side at level 0 voice volume.
Commands:
Ships - Run to that designated baseline
Planes - Run to opposite baseline
Captains coming - salute the caller and stand still
At ease - the only way students can get out of the captains coming position
Hit the deck - students drop to the floor hands out in front, laying on their stomachs
All clear - only way to get out of hit the deck position
Lifeboats - Students need to find a polyspot somewhere around the gym and put their foot on it. Only 1 students per polyspot. Give them 5 seconds to do so.
Staring contest - students need to sit face to face and have a pretend staring contest. Give them 5 seconds to do so.
Submarines - Students need to sit in a single file line in a row of 3. Give students 5 seconds to do so.
Shooting star - students get into a group of 4 and point up to the ceiling as if they were pointing at a shooting star.
Shark attack - designate an area to be the safe zone prior to calling this. Students who have been called out during the game stand up and try to tag the students who are still in the game before they reach the safe zone. Only call if all students out of the game are sitting and not talking.
