If you are interested in becoming a Board Member of ANSG, please send a bio to info@nsgeocaching.com. You can also message the NS Geocaching account via the "Message this owner" option for the event cache, GCBM65V. There will be 2 board vacancies this year.
For the ANSG to be a registered nonprofit, we need to have a full board. Leaving spaces empty for any extended period of time could jeopardize that status. Being a nonprofit enables us to seek grants and donations for events, notably “Maritime Mega”.
Board members provide oversight of the association. The ANSG’s goals are to promote Nova Scotia as a geocaching destination, and to educate the public about safe, ethical, and drama-free geocaching.
In the past, the ANSG (including board members and other volunteers) has:
partnered with Parks Canada to hide geocaches
raised funds for event sponsorship
supported and organized many geocaching events
built a platform for social connections
educated new cachers
partnered with HQ on hosting the Adventure Maze
organized Maritime Mega IV and VI
It doesn’t have to be. The biggest job has been organizing a Maritime Mega. Since the ANSG just hosted MMVI in 2025, there will be a few quiet years. Board members who are keen to try something out may invest more time, but this is more of an “optional extra” than a requirement.
A few. Some of these are taken on by specific board members. For example the treasurer keeps financial records and manages the ANSG’’s finances in consultation with the rest of the Board. The ANSG has to file an annual report to the province of Nova Scotia, including minutes of the Annual General Meeting, a list of the board members and annual financial statements. One of the board members files these reports with the provice. For many years, the ANSG has managed a facebook group and a website. This can be done by a board member or another volunteer.
