A fever is a temperature above 100.4 degrees (99.4 if measured under the arm or on the forehead) and indicates the presence of infection. A child should be kept home for at least 24 hours after a fever has subsided without using fever-reducing medication.
Children will be excluded if they have vomited 2 times within a 24 hour period, unless it is due to a documented medical condition. They may return to school if they have been symtpom free for 24 hours and have eaten 2 solid meals.
Diarrhea is defined as stool which occurs more frequently and/or is less formed in consistency than usual, and is not associated with recent changes of diet.
If a cough is persistent and potentially disruptive, please keep your student home. If the cough is accompanied by difficulty or loud breathing, seek immediate medical evaluation.
A child should not be sent to school if they have had abdominal pain that has continued for 2 or more hours or is associated with other symptoms.
Children should not attend if they have a rash accompanied by behavioral changes or a fever. They may return if it is determined by their physician not to be contagious in nature.
Any student found with active head lice will be excluded at the end of the school day and may return after the first treatment has been completed.
Any student with significant redness in one or both eyes that is accompanied by colored discharge and/or swelling should be valuated by a medical provider.
