Course Description:
Social Studies 9 is Global History.
Course Objectives:
This course will include map and graph skills, vocabulary, and reading development. Development is researching, writing, and higher level thinking. These will be accomplished within the context of Global History for ninth grade including: geography, culture, early man, classical civilizations, belief systems, important Empires, Middle Ages, the Renaissance, global exploration, the Reformation, absolutism, and the Age of Revolutions. In preparation for the New York State and District Standards, students will also be working on the skills needed to work with document based questions (DBQ's) and Constructed Response (short answer) questions.
Our classes will focus on the Enduring Issues throughout History. The Enduring Issues we will focus on are: Conflict, Cooperation, Power, Inequality, Innovation, Interconnectedness, Ideas and Beliefs, Environmental Impact, and Scarcity. This will help prepare students for the changes made to the Global Regents in 10th grade.
