Dear NPI Families:
With the introduction of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to North Pocono Intermediate, we will be utilizing a different approach to discipline than previous years. We have done away with the Strike system and are implementing a new system with Minor and Major behavior forms.
When students are not meeting behavioral expectations, as demonstrated by our behavior matrix (see reverse), they will learn that their behavior was unacceptable through various interventions or consequences. If inappropriate behavior continues after warnings and reminders, we will issue students a minor or major consequence depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior.
Minors can be issued by any school personnel. Minor behaviors are staff managed, the teacher or staff member who issues the minor will decide the consequence. Possible consequences include, but are not limited to, loss of privileges, call to parent, moving student’s seat, removing student from room, etc. The goal is to reteach the desired behavior. A form with information about the problem behavior/incident will be sent home with the student for parents/guardians to review. Three (3) minors in any category will result in one (1) major. Three (3) minors in a single day will result in one (1) major.
Majors can be issued by any school personnel. Major behaviors are office managed. Mrs. Maganzini or Mrs. Dennebaum will decide the consequence of any problem behaviors. Possible consequences include, but are not limited to, loss of privileges, lunch detention, in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, etc. Administration will make a call home to parents/guardians. Two (2) majors in one quarter will result in the loss of participation in that quarter’s schoolwide blowout celebration. Every student will start with a clean slate each quarter.
Students will be rewarded throughout the school year for following expectations. Trojan Tokens will be given out for students to save up and cash in for prizes. There will also be quarterly blowouts for students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the PBIS team via email (npipbis@npsd.org). A copy of our behavior matrix is on the back. We are looking forward to a great school year with our new PBIS system.
Thank you for your continued support,
Eliza Maganzini
