Little Women: Play Preview
by Paige Mimnaugh
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is coming to Newington High School! Little Women is a famous classic novel about four women--Beth, Jo, Meg, and Amy--and how they live their lives in the 1860s. The novel was a very advanced novel for its time due to the progressive commentary about women and a woman's role in society, even featuring a character, Jo, who uses a code name and dresses up as a man in order to be considered in the writing industry. The first Broadway production of Little Women premiered in 1912, and it immediately became the talk of the town. Today it is one of the most known classic novels, a perfect read for all ages, and has stood the test of time for years. The performance will feature amazing acting by NHS students and impressive stage design. Newington senior and actress Isabella Longo says, "Join us for an unforgettable night as we follow the adventures of the March sisters -- Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth -- as they navigate the joys and challenges of growing up!" We hope you come and support the Newington High School Drama Club and come see the amazing play, Little Women.
Tickets are on sale at nhsdrama.booktix.com and performances are Nov 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.
Spotlight on Marching Band by Joshua Jose
What do you like the most about Marching Band or What is your favorite memory from Marching Band?
Meljo Jebbu:
“As a member of the Newington High School Drumline, one of the things I love about marching band is that I have made many new friendships and everybody is always there for each other.”
RJ Pouliot:
“I think marching band is a way to step away from the educational side of school and express yourself with music. My favorite memory is our drumline battle against Wethersfield. It is so fun to show off our skills that we have learned throughout the months and have fun at the end of the season.”
Vishu Gudipudi:
“What I love about marching band is the positive environment and people who make people smile. It was the reason that I was excited to go to marching band every week and was one of the reasons I decided to keep doing it.”
