for Newark's At-Promise Youth at East Side High School

Talent Development Academy @ East Side High School is an accelerated learning academy that serves a diverse and unique body of at-promise and under-credited youth. The program cultivates a safe environment that provides relevant and rigorous instruction that promotes active & personalized learning through early college/dual enrollment, project based, real world, and blended learning experiences. The program addresses adversities by establishing youth relationships with adults and peers dedicated to student achievement in order to develop well-rounded young adults who will reach their full potential as productive and engaged citizens that embody self-respect and goodwill toward their communities.

This work is being done because WE have a responsibility to ALL children. We believe the lives of all of our youth are crucial to our collective futures, we feel it is our moral and ethical imperative to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. The key is education: research has shown a quality high school and college experience is a powerful lever of change. Education cannot be standardized; we need a new educational model that empowers our students with quality knowledge and skills and works with them to become change agents to challenge systemic and institutional oppression.
