Chromebooks are provided to all students for use on campus and thus it is not necessary to purchase a laptop unless a student wishes to take Computer Science as a subject at AS and A-levels.
While the Chromebooks that we provide are sufficient for the needs of the IGCSE curriculum for Computer Science, students who wish to take the subject at AS and A-level (only in Grades 11 to 13) must provide their own Windows-based laptops. Specifications can be found on the email sent 30 November 2021.
We encourage all parents who are in the position to do so to try and acquire a cheap device for their children to work on. Chromebooks are more than sufficient for all school work except for students in Grades 11 and 12 who take Computer Science as a subject.
Extra-curricular activities are available for all grades, and are selected on a termly basis giving every student the chance to try something new.
Some of our activities may include: arts and craft, chess, drama performances, languages, debating club and photography.
For some activities a fee is charged if it requires additional resources, or it is run by an outside provider. This will be indicated on the activities list at the beginning of each term.
Physical education is offered during curriculum time as well as after school by Fielding Dreams.
Their goal is to improve the health and wellness of all children throughout our schools.
Fielding Dreams sets standards in the development of youth sports. Their aim is to instill a passion for physical activity in the outdoors and in doing so, improve technical abilities and skill standards in all sports.
They offer professional coaching, this includes swimming on-site and ensures our children remain active and participate in team activities on our sports fields.
If a student requires additional academic support, the expectation is that they will approach the subject teacher and arrange to meet for support sessions in the afternoons after timetabled lessons have ended. Teachers will also provide small group support after school known as study hall. Saturday school programmes will also be offered periodically when a teacher feels additional whole-class support is required. Study-skills support will also be offered during timetabled flex sessions. For social/ emotional support or special academic interventions, our school psychologist is on hand to provide support.
Parent support in helping to drive the academic success of your children is also vital. We humbly request that you ensure they are at school on time, that they attend support sessions and Saturday schools if arnaged. Also ensure they have the time and physical space at home that is conducive to independent study. Follow up with teachers/ coaches if you have any concerns about your child from your side. Encourage them to develop independent study habits. Allow them to figure out homework for themselves, rather than providing excessive support to them. Hold them accountable for work not completed or deadlines missed, and support the teachers in this. Please do not make excuses for your child for missed deadlines or shoddily completed work. And please refrain from taking your children out of school for unnecessary reasons.
Lower Secondary - This denotes the phase that children entering at grade 8 (Year 1) will
experience. The focus here is on building core skills in Mathematics, English, Science and Second Languages to ready students for the IGCSE phase starting in Grade 9. The vast majority of the timetable is devoted to these core subjects. Time is also given to Humanities, Business Studies, Computers, and Art and Design by way of introduction.
IGCSE - Stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education- sat in Oct/ Nov
of Year 3 (Gr 10).
AS - Stands for Advanced Subsidiary- usually sat in Year 5 (Gr 12). The AS Level is the equivalent of matric in the CAPS system.
A Level - stands for Advanced level and is sometimes called A2- usually sat in Year 6 (Gr 13).
This is a post-matric qualification usually taken by students wanting to apply to tertiary institutions overseas, or those who would like to improve on their AS Level results.

1. A student might be doing really well academically and would want to improve their options for International study. In this case doing A-levels is highly recommended, if not essential.
2. A student might be doing well academically but they want to apply to a top South African university for a highly competitive course. A-levels will give them a distinct advantage.
3. A student might be very uncertain about what exactly they want to do after school. Using A-levels as an Academic Bridging year will give them time to mature and get certainty, while at the same time giving them a competitive advantage over other students.
4. A student might be concerned over their academic performance and the pressures of having to complete AS in Year 12 with D symbols and a combination of C symbols for IGCSE. Doing A-levels buys them time and more options for University exemption while doing fewer subjects. (You need 3 A-levels with an E symbol or a combination of IGCSE with 2 A-levels to also get University exemption.)
In all the scenarios above, we will build an individual two-year pathway for students starting next year. This will be done in consultation with students and parents who are interested.

Most ebooks on Snapplify have a lifetime licence, but some do have a time-span of a little over a year. This is clearly indicated below the e-book title on the book list.
To use the e-books, students will need to download the Snapplify app to their devices. E-books can then be downloaded onto the Snapplify app and used offline.
Snapplify provides a lot of interactive study features on the app. Students can highlight portions as they read, leave notes, link related resources or videos, and do much more with the text as they read within the app.
The Engage platform supports all major payment methods including debit and credit cards. We recommend paying via credit card, as the e-books will then be available immediately.
