Really Awesome Books (seriously...you can't put them down)
Wonder by R.J. Palacio: Wonder is a brutally powerful story of a 10-year-old boy named August Pullman, who has a facial anomaly. He is an ordinary kid who plays Xbox, is obsessed with Star Wars, but despite the 27 operations done for his face he will never look normal
Restart by Gordon Korman: A fall from the house roof leaves eighth-grader Chase Ambrose with acute retrograde amnesia. He may not remember names and faces from before his accident, but his classmates certainly remember him, and for the majority of Hiawasee Middle School, the memories are none too pleasant.
Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt: Lynda Mullaly Hunt's Fish in a Tree is a fictitious novel about three kids: Ally, Keisha, and Albert, who “set the world on fire” as they overcome challenges and conflicts. The plot begins with Ally refusing to try at school because of her learning disabilities.
Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper: Melody Brooks is an eleven-year-old girl who was born with cerebral palsy. Her parents have done everything they can to help her live a normal life, but life is often frustrating for Melody since she cannot speak, move, nor communicate her wishes. As a result, Melody has to fight to get her wishes.
Resources to help you get organized!
Organization is a skill that requires practice, and can benefit every area of your life. When you develop good organization habits, you manage your time more effectively, feel less stressed, and are more productive overall. Check out these resources below:
Get Ready, Do, Done: Use this to tackle procrastination! Often we don't start a project or assignment because it feels overwhelming. List what materials you need under "Get Ready", what steps you need to take to complete the assignment under "Do", and what the final project or assignment will look like under "Done". Then estimate how much time you need to complete each section and get started!
Study Plan: Your days are busy, and often it feels like there is not enough time in the day. Use this plan to map out when you will study and complete your homework assignments. The key is that when it is study/homework time, you work in a quiet place that is away from distractions (including your phone or electronics that you don't need for your assignments). If you practice this plan for a couple of weeks, your study habits will improve (bonus...so will your grades and stress level!).
