QuaranTeen Reads and other Isolation Fun
Good Morning All,
As we have almost reached the end of our first week of this new way of learning. I have been working on the website this week and I thought I would post some popular Dystopian YA books and series. Or as I like to call them Quaranteen Reads.
In no particular order:
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Susan Collins
Seen the movies, try reading the books
The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
In this case I promise the books are way better, and you get to find out the ending
The Maze Runner series by James Dashner
On my reading list, might need to try an online book group. Message me if interested.
The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowery
One of my ultimate favorites, I probably read it once a year at least.
The Luna Chronicles by Melissa Meyer
Read these last year and they are a great read especially if you like twisted fairy tales
The Gone series by Michael Grant
What would happen if all the grown-ups just disappeared one day?
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
This novel has been around for a bit and was made in to a movie a few years ago.
Also a great one for folks who are looking for a little hidden historical trivia.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, check these out and see what else is out there.
Good Morning from My Living room.
Hello All,
How is everyone doing? Here is the ultimate question. How many of you have thought at least once in the last week, "I want to go back to school!" If it hasn't happened yet it will soon. As we enter into week 3? of our social distancing education what kind of things are you doing to keep yourselves out of mischief? Today I was going to focus on ways to stay in touch while social distancing. Some you already know about like Face Time, texting, Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram, and I am sure others. Some we have been all figuring out together like Zoom or Google Meets for checking in with groups of people. I know I will start using Google Meets to meet with my 8th grade computer class this week. I am also willing to do a set time for any CMS students, or teachers to drop in for a check in if there is an interest. If that is something you would be interested in shoot me an email at bducajohnson@norwood.k12.ma.us. I am also interested in hearing about some new ways you have figured out how to keep in touch with people while social distancing. New ways of sharing information is something we are all learning about right now.
Stay safe and don't do anything I wouldn't do.
Mrs. D-J
I'll be there for you!
I am asked quite often what my favorite part of my job is. And, depending on the audience I have a few different answers. Here are some of them in no particular order.
I love information and learning and want to share that with others.
Middle Schoolers are the BEST!
My two favorite things in life are Stories, and Puzzles and being a Middle School Librarian I get to experience a whole lot of both on a regular basis.
I spent a lot of time in libraries when I was younger.
I love to read!
But when it comes down to it in my role as a Middle School Librarian I would have to say my favorite part is that I get to develop a different rapport with my students then other school professionals might. My job is to create a space the students want to come to. I get to work with them for the whole 3 years they are in middle school. And a lot of time I see the students in small groups or one on one so I can get to know them on a more personal level. Often just because they want to stop and say hi as an excuse to take a short cut through the library. One thing that this Quarantine and Distance Learning has taught me is to appreciate that part of my job. The people part. That is the part I miss the most. Moving forward I will be having a General Library check in session in Google Meets on Fridays at 1pm I will post the subject or if there is an activity planned in advance on the page as well
