How to Get Assignments Ready Without Overwhelming Your Students:
If you decide to start creating any assignments in Google Classroom for after Spring Break, please be mindful of how students may feel seeing these all load now. It may create some anxiety for students that are still working on the first three weeks of work and make them feel as though they need to get started over spring break. A couple of ideas so that you can get started, but not overwhelm your students:
Schedule An Assignment for a Future Date
This is by far the best option! You get the assignment scheduled. It shows up on the right date on it's own and students do not see it prior.
Save An Assignment As A Draft
When you create a new assignment in Classroom, you can give it a name and all the items you want, but then click the dropdown next to assign and choose “Save as Draft.” This will allow you to see the assignment on the Classwork tab, but your students will not see it.
Flexible Due Date
Another option would be to not add a Due Date. Dates are not required and it would give flexibility if someone were to get ill. You could use the Topic Section and use a topic such as “Week of:” so there is still some pacing for the assignments. A final option might be to give a Due Date of three weeks out.
1. When you share a video on hangouts through sharing your screen, the participants cannot hear the audio. Watch this video to learn how to share a video through Hangouts meet with the audio.
2. If you are using Hangouts, I highly recommend that you turn on the link in Classroom to Hangouts and let the kids know that they can access it there. Here is the information form my previous email in case you missed it:
Hangouts Meet Link in Classroom:
For those using Google Classroom and Meet, Google just rolled out a new integration that lets you create a unique Meet link for each of your classes, which you and your students can easily access in Classroom, but your students can't join the Meet without you being there.
Here's a video to help explain this:
