Walsh/Pembina Counties MathCounts
Thursday, February 1, 2018, 10:00 am – Walsh/Pembina Counties MathCounts Competition for Grades 6-8 at Walsh County Courthouse Farmers Room
Forty-four middle school students from the Walsh and Pembina County schools of Grafton, Minto, Park River Area, Cavalier and Valley-Edinburg competed in the Walsh-Pembina Counties MathCounts competition held Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Walsh County Courthouse.
MathCounts is a national program designed to improve math skills among U.S. students. The program focuses on middle school students, who are at a crucial stage in developing and sustaining math interest and ability.
The top three Mathletes with the highest scores from Walsh County were: 1st Place, Josh Blanchard, son of Jeff and Dori Blanchard of Grafton; 2nd place, Konrad McCash, son of Kathlee McCash and John McCash of Grafton; and 3rd Place, Owen Zikmund, son of Tim and Jacqi Zikmund of Park River Area.
The top two teams with the highest scores from Walsh County were: 1st Place, Grafton Team, consisting of Josh Blanchard, Maison Kasprick, Kydyn Pastorek and Ty Moe, coached by Ms. Sandi Houdek; and Park River Area Team, consisting of Karson Blake, Sophia Markusen, Jonah Zikmund and Owen Zikmund, coached by Mr. Jonathan Berg.
Following competition, the students were treated to a pizza party through a generous donation from Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson.
