Walsh-Pembina Counties High School Academic Olympics

More than 100 intelligent students from the high schools of Cavalier, Edmore, Grafton, Midway, Minto, North Border Pembina, North Border Walhalla, Park River Area, St. Thomas, and Valley-Edinburg competed in the 3rd Annual Walsh-Pembina Counties Academic Olympics Competition on Monday, March 12 in the Grafton High School gymnasium. The event was sponsored by the Walsh-Pembina Administrators and coordinated by North Valley Career-Tech Center.

Fifteen teams of students participated in a regular round with the top three teams (Edmore Varsity, Minto Varsity, and Park River Area Varsity) advancing to the lightning round. The Minto varsity team, consisting of Noah Zikmund, Christian Coffinet-Crean, Killian Coffinet-Crean, Weston Napier, Daniel LaBounty, Casey Anderson, and Andrew Plutowski, coached by Mr. Art Shutt, came out on top, earning them the traveling trophy.

Students answered questions asked by moderator, Mr. Todd Burianek, related to the categories of English, Science, Math, Social Studies, Electives, and Current Events. The Academic Olympics season will continue with the Regional Tournament to be held in Northwood on March 19 and the State Competition to be held in Bismarck on April 16.

Walsh-Pembina Counties Junior High Academic Olympics

Tuesday, November 7, 2017, 10:00 am – 2nd Annual Junior High Academic Olympics for Grades 7-8 at Grafton High School Gymnasium for all Walsh-Pembina Administrator Schools.

More than 50 intelligent junior high students from the schools of Cavalier, Grafton, Minto, Park River Area, and Valley-Edinburg competed in the 1st Annual Walsh-Pembina Counties Jr. High Academic Olympics Competition on Monday, November 7, 2016 in the Grafton High School gymnasium. The event was sponsored by the Walsh-Pembina Administrators and coordinated by North Valley Career-Tech Center and the Red River Valley Education Consortium.

Students participated in a regular round with the top three teams advancing to a lightning round. Of the nine teams competing, the Cavalier team, consisting of Carsen Lindsay, Trevor Hinkle, Kaia Schluchter, Maya Sumra, Lily Crosby and Natalie Hunter, coached by Ms. Sue Bigwood, came out on top, earning them the traveling trophy. The Grafton team of Vivienne Heidt, Robert Parsons, Joshua Blanchard, William Jiskra, Claire Bjorneby, and Cassie Erickson placed 2nd. The Valley-Edinburg team of Elian Martinez, Jordan Labine, Jaykob Knutson, Emily Steinman, Meghan Byrd, and Lukas Pastorek placed 3rd.
