North Polk has experienced significant enrollment growth the past several years. To predict future enrollment trends, the district partnered with RSP & Associates to conduct an enrollment study which will allow the district to manage this growth. Projections indicate that enrollment will continue to increase for the foreseeable future.
Based on projected enrollment growth, the current West Elementary, Central Elementary and high school will be above or near functional capacity starting in the 2021-22 school year.
In order to accommodate continued enrollment growth, the North Polk Board of Education and administrative team sought input from two external sources to evaluate district needs and aid in determining a solution. After reviewing findings from these studies, the team agreed to recommend the construction of a new elementary building and an academic addition to the existing high school. The recommended solution would alleviate capacity issues currently experienced at the district’s elementary buildings and high school, and would change the district’s K-5 grade configuration.
March 3, 2020 - A Special Election will be held to authorize the North Polk Community School District to contract indebtedness and issue bonds to construct, build, furnish and equip a new elementary building and improve the site; and to construct, build, furnish, and equip an addition to the existing high school building, including related remodeling, and to improve the site. Polls will be open from 7AM to 8PM. A YES vote of 60.1% is required for the measure to pass.
