Voter approval would allow the district to construct an upper elementary building and an academic addition to the existing high school. Additional space is needed to accomodate for the district’s increasing student enrollment.
If approved by voters, a new building would be constructed to serve students in grades 3-4 who reside within the West Elementary boundary, as well as all 5th grade students within the district. The new building will help alleviate capacity issues at both of the district’s current elementary buildings.
The district secured a thirty-five acre site located near the area presently known as Technology Park, at Vista Lake Court in Polk City. The North Polk Board of Education determined that building in Polk City is best suited for the new elementary building due present growth in the area.

The new building would have approximately 16 classrooms, and built to allow for expansion in the future, if necessary. Upon opening, functional capacity would be approximately 400 students.
At the high school, voter approval would allow for an academic addition of potentially eight classrooms to be added to the existing building. The addition would provide relief to a building that is otherwise expected to exceed capacity in the 2021-22 school year.
The high school opened in the fall of 2013, and was designed to accommodate future additions. If approved by voters, an academic addition would be constructed on the northeast corner of the high school.
With the addition, the high school’s functional capacity would increase to roughly 750 students, which is projected to serve the building through the 2028-29 school year or beyond.
The recommended solution would alleviate capacity issues currently experienced at the district’s elementary buildings and high school, and would change the district’s K-5 grade configuration.
The estimated cost for the new elementary building is approximately $19,000,000, and approximately $6,000,000 for the addition to the high school. Together, these projects total an estimated cost of $25,000,000. The district would utilize revenue from the statewide penny sales tax (SAVE) to fund the remaining cost difference between the $15,000,000 in general obligation bonds and the total project cost of approximately $25,000,000.
March 3, 2020 - A Special Election will be held to authorize the North Polk Community School District to contract indebtedness and issue bonds to construct, build, furnish and equip a new elementary building and improve the site; and to construct, build, furnish, and equip an addition to the existing high school building, including related remodeling, and to improve the site. Polls will be open from 7AM to 8PM. A YES vote of 60.1% is required for the measure to pass.
