Our next book is a classic from our literary heritage. It was first published in instalments in The London Magazine in 1905 and parents and children would sit together once a week and catch up on the next instalment. It was published in book form in 1906 and has continued to delight readers, young and old, since that time.
The author, Edith Nesbit wrote 40 books specifically aimed at children during her lifetime and is described as 'the first modern writer for children.'
Miss Vardon remembers loving this book so much that she re-read nearly 50 times when she was growing up!
