The symphonic wind ensemble is a concert organization devoted to granting the composer and his audience the most faithful performances of his music; it is an ensemble which calls upon the strictest disciplines possible. Consisting of on average 55 wind and percussion performers this top tier group maintains the highest of performance standards with other nationally recognized instrumentalists.
The wind ensemble has performed at the 2006 Bands of America National Concert Festival as one of only 18 selected across the nation. Additionally, the ensemble has been the featured performance ensemble at the 2004 NCMEA Conference as well as the 2006 University of South Carolina Band Clinic.
On average the group performs six to seven concerts a year to include State and National Wind Festivals and local venues in support of the arts. In true formal symphony tradition, students in the Wind Ensemble are required to wear black tuxedos for the men and long black dresses for the women at all performances.
The ensemble maintains an aggressive performance schedule and is a highly sought after organization for both its talented instrumentalists and collective performance repertoire.
The symphonic band is the largest concert ensemble at Northern Nash High School. This ensemble is devoted to the advancement of musical fundamentals and developing the highest standards of musicianship of its members. This ensemble performs literature from the North Carolina Grade IV and V list.
The marching band is an auditioned, volunteer, extra-curricular ensemble at Northern Nash. This ensemble provides a “society” and “family” to which all band students can belong. It is a place where they learn values and standards, where they can learn to depend on one another in their pursuit of excellence.
They learn about responsibility, doing their fair share, and sticking to a common goal. They learn to value people, respect their peers, and not make judgments on the superficial. They frequently acquire a stronger base for their adult life than any other avenue open to them.
Comprised of wind, percussion, and colorguard performers, the marching band performs a half-time program at all home football games and select away games. The first official marching band competition is usually early September, which begins the bands travel season, followed by state, regional, and national competitive events. In recent years, the marching band has performed in competitions at Giants’ Stadium, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta (home of the NFL Atlanta Falcons), and the USSBA National Championships at the M and T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.
At Northern Nash, each school year starts with the the marching band program. The marching band season stretches through November and includes local performances and holiday events in support of our community. At the conclusion of the Marching season members begin the audition and selection process for placement within the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Winterguard.
