Sue Spencer joined the Northern Highlands staff in 2008 as part of the Social Studies Department after teaching psychology, sociology and history for a decade at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark, NJ. Tasked with launching the Psychology program in its inaugural year, Spencer initially taught CP Psychology and AP European history before adding AP Psychology to the course offerings the following year. In 2012, Spencer began running the SAT and PSAT Saturday testing, and added the ACT and PreACT as college entrance testing options in 2014. In 2019. Spencer filled the newly established, full-time District Testing Coordinator position, in charge of AP testing, WIDA Screener and ACCESS testing for English Language Learners, Seal of Biliteracy testing for multilingual students, and state NJSLA/NJGPA testing, in addition to continuing to run the Saturday test center for SAT. PSAT, ACT and PreACTs. Spencer also serves as the District HIB Specialist and the Summer Academy Coordinator, and continues to teach the Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) Honors Sociology course for 11th and 12th graders.
Spencer holds an AB in Psychology and Certificate in Gender Studies from Princeton University and an MAT in History and Secondary Education from Smith College, and has completed doctoral coursework in the D.Litt. program at Drew University, the Counseling Psychology program at Rutgers University, and the Educational Leadership program at Kean University.
