Registering for Advanced Placement tests is a multi-step process that takes place at the beginning of the academic year in which students wish to test. Students who wish to register to take an AP test should follow the steps below to ensure that they are prepared for the exams in May. Deadlines are ultimately set by the College Board, and failure to meet deadlines could result in additional fees and/or the inability to sit for the test.
STEP 1: SET UP COLLEGE BOARD ACCOUNT
You will need to set up a College Board account in order to register for your AP test and access AP Classroom. If you already have an account, please use that login. If you cannot recall your login information, please refer to the College Board's student account help page. Keep in mind that school personnel cannot help you with account access due to College Board privacy restrictions.
STEP 2: REGISTER FOR AP CLASSROOM AND THE TEST
At the start of the school year, your AP teacher(s) will provide you with instructions about how to register in AP Classroom. This process gives you access to important course resources and also registers you to take the AP test in that subject. Your AP teacher will provide a unique Join Code for your class and specific period. Use this code when following the steps on this instructional guide. All students in AP courses MUST sign up for AP Classroom, and will be registered for the AP test by default. Students NOT wishing to take the AP test must email spencers@northernhighlands.org to opt out BEFORE 10/31.
STEP 3: PAY FOR THE TEST IN PAYSCHOOLS CENTRAL
Students will pay the $99 per exam fee in PaySchoolsCentral by selecting the fee/s associated with each of their AP exams. All exam fees must be paid by 10/31. Students who do not pay by this deadline will have to pay an additional $40 late fee per test. Students who have paid for an AP test but later decide not to take it must make this request by emailing Ms. Spencer, your AP Coordinator, BEFORE 3/6 to receive a refund, minus the $40 cancellation fee.
STEP 4: SIGN OFF ON THE AP CONTRACT IN GENESIS FORMS
This contract should be read thoroughly in order to understand fees charges by the College Board for late testing requests, canceled tests, and late registration requests. The contract is located in the Parent Portal under the "forms" tab. Additionally, the contract describes fees, cancellation policies and AP student responsibilities.
Students who earn high scores on multiple exams are eligible to be recognized as AP Scholars by the College Board. Students interested in earning these accolades should plan their schedules accordingly to ensure that they meet all requirements. Many of our students have been honored as AP Scholars over the years.
Highlanders who sat for AP exams in 2025 demonstrated their academic excellence through their exemplary scores in multiple subjects. Overall, we had 97 AP Scholars, 76 AP Scholars with Honor, and 126 AP Scholars with Distinction.
